No Birdies, No Match Play for Katz; Uihlien in Good Shape

Jake Katz made his first appearance in the United States Amateur this week but unfortunately will not be making an appearance in the match play portion of the event.

Katz entered his second round at one over par and needed an even par round or better to make it to match play but with a four hour delay, five holes, darkness suspension, fog delay, and 13 holes, he could just never get it going.

He shot a three over 39 on the front (back nine) and followed that with a two over 38 for a five over 77. He finished with a two day total of six over par (148). Katz had no birdies at the much longer Erin Hills Golf Course so it was very tough to score, especially on a course that doesn't yield many birdies at all in the first place.

Even though Katz will leave this championship empty handed, he will have his hands full over the next year as he will be turning pro and moving on to qualifying.

Gregor Main leads the tournament will back to back five under par rounds. Blake Biddle has control of second place at eight under par. Top amateurs including Russell Henley is tied for third at seven under par. Defending champion Peter Uihlein and Jordan Spieth are both at five under which puts them in a tie for eighth. Number one amateur in the world Patrick Cantlay sits at two under for the tournament, well on his way to match play.
